The Black River at Watertown is a Lake Ontario river of an entirely different order from its OH namesake -- 1,864 square miles of Adirondack-draining watershed, peak flows above 5,000 cfs in steelhead season, and a hard-water character that rewards heavier gear and longer drifts. The Dexter dam tailwater holds fish through winter; Black River Bay is a fall and spring magnet.
