About Elk Creek
Elk Creek drains 33 square miles of PA Erie County and is the most-fished PA Lake Erie steelhead tributary -- 12 to 15 thousand fish stocked annually and the fly anglers know it. The creek runs gravel-bottomed through the wooded reaches above Girard Road; the lower reach below the I-90 bridge holds fish year-round in the deeper pools. Crowds in the prime windows; off-hours rewarded.
October through May. Peak runs Late October through early December and again mid-March through April. Wadeable at most flows; clears in 24-36 hours.
